John K. Jonak has been the principal of Westmont Junior High School since 2012 and has over 20 years of experience in education. He taught Social Studies and Literature Studies for seven years at Heritage Middle School in Berwyn.  For six years, Jonak was an assistant principal at Mannheim Middle School in Melrose Park. 

Jonak served in the United States’ Army and Illinois’ National Guard, until retirement in December of 2010, after years of deployments and service across the globe which had much to do in framing his perspective on education and life. He is married to his wife, Tonia, and has three young children, Katie, Jackson, and Addie. His oldest daughter, Katie, was killed in a DUI accident on October 7, 2016.  One of his favorite staff members is Emmy, the school's educational assistance dog.  He currently calls Aurora home.
